The short answer

What is the Big Green Egg?

The Big Green Egg is the original ceramic kamado cooker — a grill, smoker, oven and roaster in one. Its thick ceramic walls lock in heat and moisture, and two adjustable dampers give you precise control from low-and-slow smoking near 225°F all the way to searing heat over 700°F, all on natural lump charcoal. It comes in seven sizes from Mini to 2XL, and it's one of the most popular grills to build into a custom outdoor kitchen. HL Posey Builders is an authorized Big Green Egg dealer and installer serving Cape Coral, Fort Myers, Naples, and all of Southwest Florida since 2006.

The Problem

One grill that never quite does it all

Most backyards end up with a gas grill that sears fine but can't smoke, or a smoker that can't do a quick weeknight dinner. You shouldn't need three machines to cook the way you want.

01

No real smoke flavor

Gas is fast, but it can't give you the deep, wood-fired smoke of a true charcoal cooker — so brisket, ribs, and low-and-slow are off the table.

02

Cheap grills die in Florida

Thin steel rusts fast in salt air and humidity, and flimsy builds lose heat, so you're replacing a grill every couple of seasons.

03

Guesswork on size & install

Order online and you're on your own for which size fits, how to build it in safely, and what to do when something goes wrong.

Why the EGG is HL Posey Approved

We don't sell a grill we wouldn't cook on ourselves

Before any grill earns a place in your outdoor kitchen, we put it through our own hands-on test — build quality, materials, versatility, and how it holds up to Florida. The Big Green Egg passes on all four.

Its ceramic body shrugs off salt air and humidity, holds temperature better than steel, and cooks anything from a Tuesday burger to a 14-hour brisket. Then we build it in right — with the support, airflow, and clearances the EGG actually needs.

Ceramic, not thin steel

Won't rust or pit in coastal Florida air.

225°F to 700°F+

One cooker for smoke, roast, bake and sear.

Fuel-efficient charcoal

Holds heat for hours on a single load of lump.

Built in by pros

Correct support, airflow, and dome clearance.

Questions, answered

Big Green Egg FAQ

What sizes does the Big Green Egg come in?

Seven: Mini, MiniMax, Small, Medium, Large, XL and 2XL. The Large (18.25" grid, ~262 sq in) is the most popular for most families. The XL (24" grid, ~452 sq in) suits frequent entertainers, and the 2XL (29" grid, ~672 sq in) is the largest kamado on the market.

Does a Big Green Egg use gas or charcoal?

It burns natural lump charcoal — that's what gives it authentic smoke flavor and its huge temperature range. Many homeowners pair an EGG with a built-in gas grill and side burner so they get fast gas cooking and low-and-slow charcoal in the same kitchen.

Can a Big Green Egg be built into an outdoor kitchen?

Yes, and it's one of the most popular grills to build in. It needs proper structural support for its weight, an air-control opening at the base, non-combustible surrounds, and enough clearance for the dome to open. We handle all of that. See our built-in EGG outdoor kitchens →

Why is the EGG better than a cheap grill in Florida?

Its ceramic body doesn't rust or corrode in salt air and humidity the way thin-steel grills do, and it holds heat far better. Built and cared for properly, an EGG lasts for years — not a couple of seasons.
