"Waterfront, fairway, or the street you've lived on for years — Bonita builds its life outdoors. Every kind of backyard here deserves a builder who knows what it needs."

— Your Situation

You Know What the Backyard Should Be. The Question Is Who Builds It to That Standard.

Bonita Springs isn't one kind of neighborhood. It's the Gulf-front and canal homes near Bonita Beach, Little Hickory, and the Imperial River, where the water is the whole point and the salt air is relentless. It's the gated golf communities — Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing, The Brooks, Palmira, Bonita National — where an architectural review committee signs off before a footing is poured. And it's the established neighborhoods off Old 41 and the newer subdivisions and 55+ communities that make up much of the city's everyday life. It's one municipality — mostly in Lee County, with its southern edge reaching into North Collier.

You already know what your space should be: an outdoor kitchen designed around how you actually cook and entertain, a louvered pergola so an afternoon storm doesn't end the evening, a fire feature for the evenings the Gulf breeze finally turns cool.

The vision isn't the challenge. The challenge is finding a contractor who builds correctly for your Bonita — who specs for salt exposure on a canal lot, knows the review process inside the gated communities, and gives a straightforward neighborhood backyard the same licensed, permitted, well-built result. That's the gap HL Posey Builders has filled in Bonita Springs since 2007.

— The Problem Most Companies Don't Address

In Bonita, What Goes Wrong Depends on Where You Are — and Most Contractors Plan for None of It.

Near the water, Bonita is a corrosive environment. Any property near a saltwater or brackish canal, or within reach of the Gulf at Bonita Beach and Little Hickory, destroys standard materials faster than most contractors will admit before the deposit clears. Standard imported 304-grade stainless pits within a season. Granite absorbs salt and stains. Pergola frames that aren't anchored to engineered footings don't meet the wind-load code — which surfaces at inspection, or in the next named storm.

Inside the gated golf communities, the test is different. In Bonita Bay or Pelican Landing, an outdoor kitchen built below the community's standard — countertops that don't match the interior stone, a pergola whose proportions fight the roofline, big-box appliances in a home finished to a far higher level — reads immediately to buyers and their agents, and shows up in what the home sells for.

And in the established neighborhoods that make up much of Bonita, the risk is simpler and just as costly: an unlicensed crew, an unpermitted structure, and materials chosen for the showroom instead of the backyard. We've built across all of Bonita long enough to know which of these your project needs to plan for — from the first conversation.

— Why Material Selection Matters Here

What Bonita's Climate — and Its Communities — Demand of an Outdoor Kitchen

Appliances & Hardware

On saltwater, brackish, and Gulf-adjacent lots we specify USA-manufactured 304-grade stainless for all appliances and hardware — not the imported 304, 201, or 430-grade found in mass-market lines. Near Bonita Beach and the canals, the difference is measurable within a single summer. In the gated communities, we spec the professional lines those homes expect.

USA 304-Grade Stainless · Dometic Twin Eagles · Delta Heat · Coyote · AOG · Alfresco

Countertops & Surfaces

The best outdoor surface — and the most expensive — is a full-body porcelain slab such as Dekton: UV-stable, non-porous, no sealing. Granite and dolomite are genuine stone but porous and need periodic sealing; quartzite is harder but still seals. In a Bonita Bay-level home, we match the outdoor surface to the interior stone. We choose by your exposure and your finish level, not a catalog.

Large-Format Porcelain · Quartzite · Dolomite · Granite

— HOW IT WORKS

A Simple Path to Becoming a Backyard Hangout Hero

Step 1

We Listen

We start with an in-depth conversation about your space and ideas, then give you a budget range. Visit our showroom in person or virtually to see everything that fits your vision — then we come to your home and make it all work.

Step 2

We Design

We design your hangout and tell you what your investment will be. We guide the final selection of cabinet colors, countertops, and backsplashes, and write up the full scope so everyone's on the same page — including our licensed plumber and electrician.

Step 3

We Build. You Enjoy.

Construction begins on your scheduled date and generally runs about three weeks for an outdoor kitchen. The last day we install the appliances and clean up every bit of dust. Always shooting for a 5-star performance.

— What It Looks Like When It's Done

This Is the Bonita You Moved Here For

A finished outdoor kitchen and covered living space in Bonita Springs isn't a home improvement project. It's the version of your life that you pictured when you bought the house.

It's a Wednesday in February.

In your shorts, flip-flops, and a sweater,  doing your Hangout Hero thing, grilling up dinner for some friends. Not a single thought about winter in weeks.  You're only thinking, "how amazing is this". This is just any given Wednesday now.

The neighbor asks who built it.

Word travels fast in Bonita Springs neighborhoods. A finished outdoor kitchen — one that's clearly built right, and clearly amazing by all standards — is the kind of thing that gets noticed. We've built entire neighborhoods one backyard at a time.

You go to sell.

The outdoor kitchen is in the listing headline. The inspector finds nothing to flag, and the HOA file is complete. A licensed-contractor-built outdoor kitchen is a documented asset that transfers cleanly — no removal, no disclosure complications. It closes the deal rather than complicating it.

— WHAT WE HELP YOU AVOID

The Shortcuts That You Don't Know About Will Cost You Later

Bonita Springs is a strong market, and strong markets attract companies that take shortcuts. The definition of a certified licensed contractor is: a construction company that can hire and assemble all the trades necessary to complete your project, and be solely responsible for everything. A company that hires someone to do electrical, plumbing, or gas work, or does it themselves without a contractor's license, is illegally contracting or doing unlicensed work.

These illegal companies put you at risk, and leave you on the hook when something goes wrong. Our general liability insurance costs 20 to 30 times more to ensure you are protected for what we do. Their liability insurance is worthless, and your homeowners insurance may be too, if something goes wrong. Leaving you solely responsible.

We've heard from Bonita Springs homeowners who inherited someone else's problem outdoor kitchen and are stuck fixing it themselves.

We'd rather you call us first.

— WHY HL POSEY BUILDERS

A Certified Contractor,  Not a Handyman.

In Bonita Springs, outdoor kitchen work is often done by unlicensed crews — paver companies, landscapers, interior-kitchen companies — not licensed to complete everything an outdoor kitchen requires. If something goes wrong, their insurance won't cover it, and your homeowner's policy may not either. No permit, no inspection, no protection for you.

When you sell, an unpermitted structure can kill the deal or cost thousands to tear out and redo. HL Posey Builders is a Florida-certified building contractor. Our showroom is a short drive north in Cape Coral, and we've built across Bonita Springs and Southwest Florida since 2007 — outdoor kitchens and outdoor living spaces are our entire business, not a pool add-on or a landscaping side service. Every structural project is permitted, inspected, and documented for your home's record.

— COMMON QUESTIONS

Bonita Springs Homeowners Ask Us

  • Who issues the permit for an outdoor kitchen in Bonita Springs?

Bonita Springs is its own municipality — mostly in Lee County, with its southern edge reaching into North Collier — and building review for work inside city limits runs through the City of Bonita Springs rather than defaulting to a county department. Submitting to the wrong authority costs weeks. We confirm the correct permitting jurisdiction for your exact address before we file, and we handle the submission and inspections as part of every project.

  • Can I build an outdoor kitchen in my gated community?

Usually yes, but the communities that define Bonita — Bonita Bay, Pelican Landing, The Brooks, Palmira, Vasari, Bonita National — each run their own architectural review committee with specific standards for materials, colors, structure heights, and setbacks, and their own submission calendar. We review your community's requirements before we finalize design and prepare the complete submission package, so the project we propose is already compliant before it goes to review. First-submission approval is the goal; a resubmittal adds weeks.

  • My lot is on a canal near the Gulf — do materials really need to be different?

Yes. Saltwater, brackish, and Gulf-adjacent properties near Bonita Beach, Little Hickory, and the Imperial River canals face far more aggressive corrosion than an inland preserve or golf-course lot. On those properties we spec 304-grade stainless, NatureKast or powder-coated aluminum cabinetry, and porcelain or quartzite countertops. On inland lots, some specifications can be relaxed. We evaluate each property individually rather than applying one spec to every job.

  • What does an outdoor kitchen cost in Bonita Springs?

A properly built outdoor kitchen in Bonita typically runs from about $15,000 for a straightforward grill-and-counter setup to $95,000 or more for a full outdoor living space with a louvered pergola, fire feature, refrigeration, and premium stone in a gated community. The range is wide because Bonita is a wide market — the number depends on square footage, appliance selection, countertop material, structure type, and your community's requirements. We provide a detailed, fixed-price proposal after the on-site consultation.

  • Are your structures hurricane-rated?

Every structure we build meets the current Florida Building Code wind-load requirements for this coastal Southwest Florida zone, strengthened again after Ian in 2022. Our pergola systems use hurricane-rated anchoring and connection hardware, and our open-air structures are designed to let wind pass through rather than catch it. No structure is truly storm-proof, but ours are built to code and built to last.

  • How long does an outdoor kitchen project take from start to finish?

A typical outdoor kitchen runs 10 to 14 weeks from signed contract. It takes 2 to 8 weeks to get all your material to our warehouse, a week or two to get you on the schedule, and 2 to 4 weeks to build. If the project needs HOA approval or a permit — common in Bonita's gated communities — that portion is out of our control and can add 4 to 12 weeks.

HL Posey Builders is Southwest Florida's premier custom outdoor kitchen builder and Florida State Certified Building Contractor (License # CBC 1253975).
