Wood Ceilings for Hangout Hero's

Let's Get Started!

Builders of Wood Ceilings & Wood Feature Walls in Naples; Sarasota; and Tampa, FL

Stucco and drywall ceilings are dull and boring.

They attract cob webs, become dingy, and develop bellies and cracks.

Wood adds warmth and beauty.

Wood ceilings create a cozy and inviting ambiance.

Choosing the right product and finish will last a lifetime.

Durable finish with minimal and simple maintenance.

Do you feel like your lanai or patio is missing something or it's not quite finished? Or is your ceiling just down right ugly?

My ceiling use to be uninspiring (ugly) painted drywall too.

Wood ceilings have a remarkable ability to transform the atmosphere of any space.

  • The texture and grain of the wood add depth and character.
  • A wood ceiling is the finishing touch to your hangout.
  • Your friends and family will enjoy talking about the look and warmth it brings to your back yard for years to come.

Factory finished wood ceiling products look the best and last the longest.

We only install factory pre-finished products, it's the best thing for you and the only way you will be happy with us.

Unfinished wood ceiling materials has it's problems:

  • Generally it's cheaper material.
  • Sanding and staining is not consistent leaving color variations in the finish.
  • Finish clear coat will be splotchy and can look different from board to board, even on the same board.
  • End joints will be butted joints not matched end joints, big difference.
  • More mess and more trades, - longer time to finish the install.

Factory finished materials solves problems and looks fantastic:

  • The boards are hand selected and bad parts cut out.
  • Sanding and staining is consistent and virtually flawless.
  • The final top coat is smooth and even like the finish of a car.
  • End joints are matched for a better finish.
  • Less waste and faster install.

Let's Get Started

Getting the best material, depends on the manufacturer and supply chain distribution channels.

Synergy wood Products is one of our favorite pre-finished wood ceiling suppliers.

  • They are consistent with the quality of wood. They cut out the bad parts of the tree.
  • They produce a top-notch finish with a soft satin look. Eco-Friendly Water-based, Zero VOC exterior grade finish making them highly suitable for your ceiling.
  • Their color is consistent from order to order. If we're short material or you add an area, the new order's color will match.

Just as important is how it makes the trip from Sanford, FL to your back yard.

  • The more times it's handled the more likelihood of damage.
  • We don't like it to be loaded and unloaded more than two to three times.
  • We work with local distributors that have from Synergy's dock straight to the distributors dock relationships.

Take a look at the video showing Synergy's facilities and manufacturing process.

Variations in the wood, which can include knot structure, grain color, and grain patterns, should be expected and is where the beauty of real wood comes from. These variations in the wood are the reason real wood is chosen to beautify a home. In other words, mother nature made the imperfections to make it beautiful and unfortunately you can't choose the imperfections that you like the best.

Are you wondering how your wood ceiling gets installed?

99% of the time your existing ceiling does NOT need to be demolished. Drywall and stucco are perfectly acceptable, and even preferrable, substrates to install a T&G wood ceiling.

  • Other companies and handymen think demo is good. Most of the time it just creates a mess that you well never get fully cleaned up. We're not going to do that to you.
  • Drywall and stucco make corrections and actually level out the bottom of your roof trusses.

Our highly skilled team of value driven professionals get it done right.

  • We locate the center of every roof truss through the drywall or stucco using current technology (that's been around 100 years or so.)
  • Most of the time the trusses are not running in the same direction. We attach 1"x4" furring strips with big nails and screws to the trusses 24" apart.
  • We attach the tongue and groove with with three to four exterior grade finish nails to every furring strip. Exceeding manufacturer recommendations and making sure your ceiling will not detach.
  • We install matching trim pieces around the edges to button up the gap.

Pitfalls - Expect the Unexpected if you Don't Want Surprises

#1. Your walls and beams have humps, bumps, divots and lumps.

  • They are mostly unnoticeable until we put a straight piece of wood up against it.
  • There is little that we can do about the existing condition without great expense.
  • There will be some gaps that neither one of us like.

#2. There will be dust. We call it progress.

  • We do our best to contain the dust and protect surfaces around the work area.
  • We dust, vacuum and clean up when we're done.
  • But, the dust will fly depending on the breeze of the day. Don't do this project if a little dust bothers you.

#3. Wood comes from trees and every tree lived a different life.

  • There are knots, different graining and overall different characteristics to every plank.
  • The wood is kiln dried (baked in an oven) to remove moisture and sap. There still may be some sap that leaks out, maybe not now but at some time in the future. This is part of real wood.
  • There will be variation in color from board to board based on how the tree's life went.

#4. Protect your valuables, they don't belong in a construction zone.

  • If you have valuable furniture, a $300 bottle of whiskey, or a special piece of art please move it inside. We will be swinging 16' long boards, air hoses, ladders and scaffolding around all day. Something might get hit.
  • We prefer that you move your furniture to avoid you having to accuse us of damaging something or not putting it back in the right place. But don't worry, we will happily move it as long as you understand that we are not responsible for how it looks or its exact placement. We take CYA pictures.

#5. You have lighting, ceiling fans, speakers or video camera's all over your ceiling that needs to come out so the ceiling can go up.

  • We will include it in the cost to take them out and put the same ones back up in the same place. But, You will need to prove to us that everything works prior to us removing it.
  • If you want to update lighting, move lighting or install new ceiling fans we have to use a licensed electrician. We can include using ours or you can hire your own. If you surprise us and try to sneak some new stuff in we will surprise you back with a no, can't do it.

We back it all up with the HL Posey PROMISE - We will get it 100% RIGHT, every time!

We believe everyone should be a Hangout Hero!

Enjoy Your Outdoor Living Space

Don’t want to be like the guy or gal down the street? Want something to call uniquely your own? How about letting us work with you to create a totally custom outdoor kitchen.

In fact, we’d much rather enjoy working with you to create and build something completely unique and exciting than to work with the guy down the street who wants a “kitchen-in-a-box”. Yes, we can do those if we have to. That’s life (sigh).

But what we really like to do is pull out those colored pencils (Okay, it’s actually done on a computer but you get the idea) and draw up something completely from scratch based on asking you some simply questions about what you like. Come on. Give us a call. We’re waiting.

The video has a 33' high spiral staircase and the largest T&G wood ceiling I ever built.

By the way, we did the whole 7,500sf addition to this house.

Let's Get Started

We had a great experience with HL Posey Builders for our outdoor kitchen, they came to our home several times with robust ideas, and took the time to ensure we were comfortable with their design and our ideas. They were prompt with committed dates for construction and follow up questions we had. Overall very positive experience. We get tons of compliments on our outdoor build-out, our outdoor kitchen, and bar!
