Sarasota Has Been Sold a Polymer Product Long Enough. This Is a Custom Outdoor Kitchen.

Tell Us Your Ideas

Custom outdoor kitchens built from aluminum framing, natural stone, and professional-grade materials — not HDPE polymer boxes assembled on your lanai. Designed from scratch for your specific home, by a Florida-certified contractor who builds to last in Southwest Florida's outdoor conditions.

YOUR  SITUATION

You've Seen What the Showrooms Offer.

It's Not What You Had in Mind.

Sarasota, Venice, and North Port are home to some of the best backyards in Southwest Florida — the Siesta Key sunset views, the Venice canals, the North Port lots with room to breathe that Tampa never offered. The outdoor kitchen has been on the list. You know what you want it to be.

Then you start researching. And what you find — in the showrooms along US-41 and in the online ads — is the same thing everywhere: HDPE polymer cabinet boxes in standard widths, a grill dropped in the middle, a quartz slab on top, and a sales rep who calls it custom. You walk away knowing that what you're being offered is a product, not a kitchen. Something that was assembled on your lanai, not built for your home.

What you actually want is a contractor who designs the outdoor kitchen the way a good architect designs a room — starting with your specific space, your home's character, your material preferences — and builds it from aluminum, masonry, stone, and porcelain. In Sarasota, that's harder to find than it should be. That's where HL Posey Builders comes in.

"The outdoor kitchen in a Venice home or on a North Port lot with a preserve view should look like it was designed for the home. Not like it was delivered from a warehouse and assembled over a weekend."

THE DIFFERENCE THAT MATTERS

What the Sarasota Showrooms and Outdoor Kitchen Companies offer.

What We Actually Build.

The Sarasota market has trained buyers to expect a product — HDPE or polymer cabinet boxes assembled on-site, with a grill and a countertop. It's a legitimate product category and it has its place. But it is not a custom outdoor kitchen. Here is the actual difference, stated plainly.

What most Sarasota companies offer

  • Polymer or HDPE cabinet boxes in standard widths and configurations

  • Appliance cutouts that fit the cabinet manufacturer's standard dimensions

  • Quartz or prefab countertops cut to fit the cabinet layout

  • Facade veneers applied over the cabinet boxes

  • No masonry, no custom stonework, no structural complexity possible

  • No built-in pizza ovens, no custom fire features, no wood ceilings

  • Often installed without proper licensing

  • Looks like what it is: a product assembled on your lanai

What HL Posey Builders actually builds

  • Custom aluminum non-combustible construction for your specific space

  • Natural stone facades — travertine, stacked stone, porcelain slab, large format tiles

  • Granite, quartzite, and porcelain slab countertops cut to your design

  • Built-in pizza ovens, smokers, and fire features integrated structurally

  • T&G wood ceilings, accents, and custom millwork

  • Aluminum louvered pergola systems and custom pavilions overhead

  • Florida-certified contractor — permitted, inspected, documented

  • Looks like it was designed for your home. Because it was.

HOW IT WORKS

From First Conversation

to Finished Outdoor Kitchen — Three Steps

The process of building a truly custom outdoor kitchen should feel straightforward when the contractor already knows what they're doing. Here is exactly what happens from your first call to the evening you use the outdoor kitchen for the first time.

We Listen:

Starting with an in-depth conversation about your space and ideas, we give you a budget range. You can make an in-person or virtual visit to our showroom to see everything that fits your vision. Then we come out to your house and make it all work.

We Design:

We design your hangout and let you know what your investment will be. We guide you through the final selection of cabinet colors, countertops and backsplashes. Write it all up to determine the final scope of work so everyone is on the same page, including our licensed plumber and electrician.

We Build. You Enjoy:

Construction begins on your scheduled date. The construction period generally takes around three weeks for an outdoor kitchen. The last day we install all the appliances and clean up all the dust. Always shooting to deliver a 5-star performance.

WHAT WE BUILD

Custom Outdoor Kitchens, Pergolas,
Fire Features &
Complete Outdoor Living Spaces

Every project is designed from scratch around your specific property in Sarasota — your lot, your home's architecture, your HOA standards, and how you actually intend to use the space. Nothing comes from a catalog.

Custom Outdoor Kitchens & Summer Kitchens

Fully custom outdoor kitchens — not polymer box systems. Built-in gas grills, charcoal grills, smokers, pizza ovens, side burners, outdoor refrigerators, beverage coolers, ice makers, sinks, and outdoor bars, built into an aluminum frame structure with stone, tile, or stucco facades. Countertop and facade materials are selected for UV stability and Southwest Florida's outdoor conditions

Pergolas & Shade Structures

Motorized louvered pergola systems, solid-roof aluminum pavilions, and fixed aluminum pergolas — engineered to Florida Building Code wind-load requirements and finished in colors and profiles that complement Babcock Ranch's architectural palette. A louvered pergola's adjustable aluminum blade roof opens for breeze, angles for shade, and closes completely when the afternoon storm arrives. We design every pergola to frame your preserve or lake view, not obstruct it.

Complete Outdoor Living Spaces

Outdoor kitchen, louvered pergola, fire feature, outdoor dining area, lounge zone, outdoor bar with bar seating, and accent lighting — designed together as one cohesive outdoor living space that flows from your home's interior and faces your preserve, lake, or community green space view. The kind of outdoor room that makes Babcock Ranch feel like the decision you always knew it was

Outdoor Fire Features

Gas fire pits, fire tables, and linear electric fireplaces in premium stone or porcelain surrounds. In a Naples home, the fire feature is the element that makes the outdoor living space work in every season — extending the evening, anchoring the lounge area, and turning an outdoor kitchen into a destination year-round rather than only when the weather is perfect.

Lanai Wood Ceilings

A wood lanai ceiling instantly upgrades your outdoor area by adding architectural depth, structural texture, and high-end warmth.  Our favorite pre-finished wood product is from Synergy Wood Products. We install tens of thousands of square feet of wood ceilings every year, and 95% of it is manufactured by Synergy. But, we have options where you can choose any color on the paint color chart.

Custom Design & Build

One licensed contractor manages concept, design, engineering drawings, county permitting, construction, and final inspection. No subcontractor juggling. No design-build disconnect. One point of accountability throughout. There is no template to load when we start your design, it is a blank screen and your design is created one line and one element at a time.

Where we work in Sarasota County

Sarasota, Venice, North Port

and the Communities In Between

Sarasota County is one of the most geographically and demographically varied markets in Southwest Florida — from the luxury barrier islands of Siesta Key and Casey Key to the rapidly growing inland communities of North Port and Wellen Park. We build throughout the county and know what each part of it demands from an outdoor kitchen build.

Sarasota City & Barrier Islands

Siesta Key, Longboat Key, Bird Key, Casey Key — barrier island and waterfront properties with Gulf views, Sarasota Bay frontage, and the salt air conditions that demand properly specified materials. We build throughout Sarasota's established waterfront neighborhoods and know what coastal exposure does to outdoor kitchens that weren't designed for it. Median age 49–50 and average household income above $118,000 make this one of the strongest custom outdoor kitchen markets in Florida..

Venice & Venice Island

AVenice Island's historic grid, the waterways and Intracoastal access of greater Venice, and the established residential neighborhoods around South Venice and Nokomis — this is a market where outdoor kitchens consistently appear as primary listing features. Venice homeowners have median property values over $434,000 and an 80% homeownership rate. The Venice Island architecture tends toward Mediterranean and Old Florida styles that reward natural stone facades and custom masonry finishes — the materials that read as designed-for-the-home rather than added-to-it.

Osprey, Nokomis & South County

The Osprey and Nokomis corridor between Venice and Sarasota captures some of Sarasota County's most compelling outdoor kitchen settings — waterfront lots on Blackburn Bay, the Legacy Trail proximity, and the Peninsula neighborhood of Osprey with its Intracoastal access. South county's mix of established and newer residential neighborhoods produces consistent outdoor kitchen demand throughout the year.

North Port & Wellen Park

North Port is one of the fastest-growing cities in Florida — canal-lined neighborhoods, large lots, newer home construction, and a homeowner demographic that moved here from Tampa Bay and the Northeast with clear ideas about what a finished backyard should look like. Wellen Park's master-planned community adds a gated-community dimension to North Port's outdoor kitchen market. These homeowners are typically younger than the Sarasota and Venice markets, investing in their primary residence rather than a retirement property — which means the outdoor kitchen is built to be used hard for years.

Palmer Ranch & Sarasota Inland

Palmer Ranch, The Hamptons, The Vineyards, Turtle Rock — the established master-planned communities of inland Sarasota County produce strong outdoor kitchen demand, particularly in the 45-to-65 demographic that represents the majority of homeowners in these communities. HOA design standards apply throughout Palmer Ranch, and we navigate those processes as part of every project we build here.

Englewood & Manasota Key

Englewood straddles the Sarasota–Charlotte county line — we're licensed in both and confirm jurisdiction before anything is filed. Manasota Key is one of Southwest Florida's last old-Florida barrier islands, with Gulf-front lots subject to coastal construction setbacks and to the specific salt-air environment of a barrier-island property. We've built on Manasota Key and assess its CCCL and environmental constraints as part of every project there from the start.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT 'S DONE RIGHT

This Is the Outdoor Kitchen You Were

Looking For in the Cabinet Showrooms

A truly custom outdoor kitchen doesn't look like it was delivered to your lanai. It looks like it was always part of the home — and it makes Sarasota feel like exactly the decision you made when you chose it.

The stone and tile facade matches the travertine on your pool deck. Nobody had to be asked to make it look that way.

Because we designed it that way from the first conversation. The countertop, the stone surround, the wood ceiling above — all coordinated to your home before any work is done. The outdoor kitchen looks like it cost more than it did because it was designed like it mattered. The polymer box system three streets over looked dated in two years. Yours still looks like day one.

Your North Port neighbors ask who built the outdoor kitchen. They've never seen anything like it.

North Port's large lots and canal-facing backyards mean your outdoor kitchen is visible in a way that Sarasota's denser neighborhoods aren't. A well-designed custom-built outdoor kitchen on a North Port preserve lot gets noticed. We've built throughout North Port's neighborhoods and the word-of-mouth network there is one of the strongest we see in any market in Southwest Florida.

Tell Us Your Ideas

The listing goes live. The outdoor kitchen is the third photo. The buyer notices it is built of entirely con-combustible material.

Appliance warranties in a folder. An outdoor kitchen that adds to the listing price rather than raising questions at closing. The investment in a properly built, truly custom outdoor kitchen in this market consistently performs above its cost in the listing — particularly in Venice and Sarasota where buyers at the $400,000 and above price point have both the expectation and the ability to recognize quality work.

WHAT WE HELP YOU AVOID

The Outdoor Kitchen You Regret Is Almost Always

a Product, Not a Design-Build

Sarasota County's outdoor kitchen market is saturated with fast, affordable installations — and homeowners who chose the fast affordable option are often the ones who call us two years later asking about remediation or replacement. We'd rather have that conversation before the product goes in, not after it fails to perform or fails the home inspection at closing.

These are the four outcomes we help Sarasota County homeowners avoid. Every one of them is a pattern we've seen repeatedly in this market.

WHY HL POSEY BUILDERS

The Custom Outdoor Kitchen Builder Sarasota  Has Needed

Sarasota, Venice, and North Port homeowners who want a truly custom outdoor kitchen — masonry, stone, custom frame, integrated pizza oven, natural stone and porcelain facades, wood ceilings — have had very few options in this market. The showrooms sell products. Pool companies offer outdoor kitchens as a service extension. The interior remodelers do outdoor work as a sideline. None of them design and build a fully custom outdoor kitchen as the primary focus of the business, under a Florida contractor's license.

HL Posey Builders is a Florida-certified building contractor. Custom outdoor kitchens, louvered pergola systems, fire features, and outdoor living spaces are the entire business. We design every project from scratch, starting with your home's character and your specific backyard. We build with the materials — natural stone, porcelain, granite, masonry, aluminum frame, cypress, cedar — that hold up in Sarasota County's outdoor conditions and that look like they were always part of the home.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU CALL

What Sarasota Homeowners
Ask Us Before the Consultation
  • What is the real difference between a custom outdoor kitchen and an HDPE or polymer cabinet kitchen?

A polymer or HDPE cabinet outdoor kitchen is a pre-manufactured product — cabinet boxes in standard widths with appliance cutouts, assembled and installed on your lanai. It functions reasonably well and it's faster to install than a truly custom build. The structural limitations are real: you're constrained to standard cabinet sizes and configurations, you can't integrate complex structural elements like a masonry pizza oven or a custom stone firebox, and the result always reads as a product that was installed rather than a kitchen that was built. In Sarasota County's outdoor conditions — UV intensity, humidity, and the afternoon rains that characterize summer — polymer and HDPE systems also tend to show wear faster than masonry and stone. A truly custom outdoor kitchen starts with a blank page. Your specific lanai dimensions, your home's architectural character, your material preferences — and it is built from masonry, aluminum frame, stone, and custom materials to those exact specifications. No standard widths. No catalog constraints. If you want a built-in pizza oven in a travertine surround that matches your pool deck, with a quartzite countertop and a wood ceiling overhead, that is a custom build. It cannot come from any Sarasota showroom.

  • What level of finish is appropriate for a Naples home?

The outdoor kitchen that performs best in the Sarasota market — both for daily enjoyment and for resale — is one that matches the interior finish quality of the home. That means quartzite or large-format porcelain countertops rather than granite outdoors (granite is porous and requires ongoing sealing in outdoor conditions). Professional-grade appliances — Twin Eagles, Delta Heat, Coyote, Alfresco — rather than big-box brands. Concealed gas lines and electrical runs so no visible conduit appears on the finished structure. A louvered pergola or shade structure with proportions coordinated to the home's roofline rather than a catalog-dimension standard width. Integrated lighting built into the pergola's beam channels rather than surface-mounted fixtures. These are not upgrade selections at HL Posey. They are our baseline for Sarasota— because in this market, an outdoor kitchen built below the home's interior standard is visible, measurable, and reflected in what buyers are willing to pay.

  • What outdoor kitchen materials hold up best in Sarasota County?

Sarasota County's outdoor conditions — UV intensity, high humidity, heavy summer rainfall, and salt air exposure on barrier island and near-coastal properties — are demanding on materials not chosen for them. For countertops, large-format porcelain and quartzite outperform granite outdoors. Granite is porous and absorbs moisture and staining agents, requiring ongoing sealing in outdoor applications. Porcelain and quartzite are non-porous, UV-stable, and require no sealing to maintain their appearance. For facades, natural stone veneer, large-format porcelain tile, and stucco-finish masonry hold up better than the polymer cladding on most prefab systems. For framing, masonry and steel frame construction is more dimensionally stable in Sarasota County's humidity than composite materials or wood. For appliances and hardware, USA-manufactured 304-grade stainless is appropriate Sarasota County properties including Siesta Key, Longboat Key, and Venice Island. We make all of these material calls based on your specific property location and salt air exposure at the consultation.

  • What does a custom outdoor kitchen cost in Sarasota County?

A truly custom outdoor kitchen in Sarasota County — aluminum frame, natural stone facade, granite or quartzite countertop, built-in grill, refrigeration, and sink — typically starts around $18,000 for a focused summer kitchen layout and runs to $95,000 or more for a full outdoor living space with a louvered pergola, pizza oven, fire feature, bar seating, and premium stone throughout. Many polymer cabinet systems are meaningfully more expensive. In terms of longevity, material quality, and how the finished kitchen reads in the context of your home, the two products are not comparable. We provide a fixed-price proposal after the on-site consultation. That number covers the full scope — design, materials, appliances, Sarasota County permit, and installation. It doesn't change once you've approved the design and signed the contract.

  • How long from first call to finished outdoor kitchen in Sarasota County?

A typical custom outdoor kitchen project in Sarasota runs 9 to 14 weeks from signed contract. Design and revision takes two to three weeks. Aquireing all material and appliances runs 3 to 5 weeks. HOA architectural review — where required for communities in Palmer Ranch, Wellen Park, or other governed developments — adds two to four weeks. On-site construction runs two to three weeks. We provide a project-specific schedule once all materials are accounted for and communicate at every milestone. For homeowners in North Port or Venice who want the outdoor kitchen ready for the seasonal window — the October through April period when Sarasota County's outdoor climate is at its best — starting the conversation in June or July gives the most comfortable margin.
